Purdue Agribusiness seeks 7,500 sq ft addition, planning commission to hold August hearing

Purdue Agribusiness wants to add a 7,500‑square‑foot addition and a new production line at 50–58 Montgomery Street, the company told the City of Binghamton Planning Commission on July 1. Brian Rice, the plant manager, said the project will allow the plant to roll‑compact a powdered product into a granular form that "will, change the process of how we handle some of our product" and make material easier to move and sell to feed mills across the Northeast.

Chair Nick Corcoran moved that the commission treat the proposal as an unlisted action under SEQR and act as lead agency; the motion, seconded by Commissioner Chris Jagiec, passed 5–0. The commission also scheduled a public hearing on the project for the August 4 meeting and asked the applicant to show all existing and proposed parking on a revised site plan and to complete parcel consolidation of 50 and 58 Montgomery before final review. Staff confirmed the addition's footprint does not trigger a stormwater pollution prevention plan because the site is currently impervious.

Rice said corporate counsel is already working on consolidating the tax parcels and that engineering verification shows the new addition will sit on existing impervious surface. The commission recorded both motions (lead‑agency determination and public‑hearing scheduling) as approved with a 5–0 tally. Next procedural steps include submission of revised site plans showing parking and continued coordination with planning staff before the August hearing.
