Chair introduced draftminutes.org, a free tool developed by an Essex resident that uses recorded audio or transcripts to generate draft meeting minutes. The chair described it as a local, low-cost option for committees that need to produce minutes quickly.
"It's developed by an Essex resident... it's called draftminutes.org," the chair said, noting the tool flags uncertain spellings and asks clarifying questions so a human clerk can verify and finalize the draft. Members expressed interest in piloting the service; one member noted Dwayne Barlow will have a booth at the upcoming town fair and could demonstrate the tool.
The clerk role remains the responsibility of the volunteer, but the commission agreed the tool could assist the clerk in preparing drafts within the legal posting timeframe.
