President Ritta Martin called the motion; Trustee Diana Corkill moved approval and Trustee Krystal Craven seconded. The motion passed 4–0 with one member absent.
Board members focused their discussion on language governing student access to sex‑segregated spaces. After extended debate about privacy, safety and state guidance, the board voted to remove explicit language permitting gender‑identity–based access to bathrooms and locker rooms while retaining a requirement that each site provide at least one all‑gender restroom. Superintendent Emily Pendell noted related athletic-policy language was adjusted in parallel to reflect the board’s decision.
Trustees framed the changes as preserving flexibility for case‑by‑case solutions while avoiding a mandatory district-wide rule; the board also recorded that the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) supports transgender student participation, a point raised during discussion. The board approved the CSBA packet with the edits by the same recorded margin, and a final, updated policy packet will be posted in district materials.
