Board approves new Middle School special education hire and grants revised leave option for teacher

"Carlson moved and Anderson seconded to approve the hiring of a new Special Education Teacher at the Middle School for the 2025-2026 school year due to student need projections," the minutes record. The motion passed 5-1, with Greg Mathews voting against.
Separately, the board accepted a revised two-year leave-of-absence request from Bill King that includes an option to return after one year; the approval set a January 16, 2026 deadline for King to notify the district if he intends to return for the 2026-2027 school year. Darrin Anderson moved and Stephanie Danielson seconded the leave motion; it carried 6-0.
Superintendent Susan Burris had described special education needs and student projections during the discussion; the minutes do not include projected student counts or specific funding sources for the additional position.
