Council backs study session to plan 2026 centennial events and steering committee

City staff asked the council to appoint two council members to an ad hoc committee to plan Placentia's 2026 centennial and a larger steering committee. Staff said the effort would include branding, merchandise, a time capsule and community programming with a steering committee of roughly 15–17 community representatives.

Council members expressed enthusiasm but debated timing given the fall election and asked for broader input; multiple councilors volunteered to serve and suggested broader representation from historical groups, the Chamber and neighborhood districts. The council ultimately voted to agendize a study session so the full council and staff can review ideas and options for committee membership and scope.

Why it matters: The centennial offers a yearlong opportunity to engage community groups and showcase local history. Council members indicated support for a robust steering committee but preferred a full-council study session to finalize structure and membership.
