Mayor Pro Tem Dr. Jennifer Wilson opened the program and said the partnership has fostered “friendships, culture, understanding, and lasting connections” between the two communities. “I truly love what I do, and I love how it allows me to give back to my community,” Dr. Wilson said.
Guests from Musashino described the exchange program as very popular and urged delegates to act as representatives of their city while enjoying the visit. Local host families and council members, including Council Member Gordon Harris (District 2), welcomed the 16 ambassadors; a number of the visiting youths introduced themselves by name and hobby, signaling personal exchange and people‑to‑people ties. Artist Janelle Barrington Spivey presented a commissioned painting that incorporated Lubbock motifs—guitars, bluebonnets and local landscapes—designed to symbolize the two cities' shared cultural appreciation.
