Commissioner presses for electric gate, cites safety at Whiteland wastewater plant; developer agrees

“There’s currently a gate, but it's manual. We don't get out and close it every time. It needs to shut immediately,” the commissioner said, arguing that the plant is a hazardous site for children and others and that an automated gate is necessary for safety and liability reasons. Staff and the petitioner agreed to include a safety gate and paving as a recommended commitment paid for by the petitioner.
Commissioners also discussed truck traffic to the plant, the adequacy of a 34‑ft dedicated town road to accommodate service and plant vehicles, and the existence of a nearby gas transmission line that constrains road alignment. Staff said detailed engineering and ALTA surveys will resolve easements, pipe casings and exact alignment during later permitting stages.
