The commission approved a minor modification (PD92-1 Mod 7-26) for updated illuminated signage at the Sam's Club at 3446 Pentagon Boulevard, with staff recommending a limit of 600 square feet of building signage and no single sign larger than 200 square feet; the fuel canopy signage was approved at the proposed ~181.44 sq ft.
Staff explained the applicant initially proposed roughly 800–870 sq ft but voluntarily reduced the building signage to 538.22 sq ft by removing blue backer panels and a 78-square-foot tire graphic. "We were able to kinda get them down to 538.22, square feet of signage," staff said when summarizing negotiations that produced the reduced package. Commissioners asked whether 600 sq ft is consistent with similar properties (staff said Walmart nearby has about 670 sq ft) and flagged a small typographical/grammar inconsistency on a canopy legend that staff said could be corrected in final plans.
The commission approved the revised signage plan with the conditions described in the staff report; the vote was unanimous, 5–0. Staff noted the applicant has not yet installed the new signs and must obtain required permits before any work proceeds.
