Spanish dual-language task force reports three meetings and readies recommendations

At the Nov. 26 Committee of the Whole, Minneapolis Public School District staff provided an update on the Spanish Dual Language Task Force, reporting three meetings convened (Oct. 24, Nov. 7, Nov. 21) and the creation of a caregiver survey to collect input on enrollment, programming and funding. Staff said analysis of the survey data was presented to the task force on Nov. 21 and that the group is scheduling a subsequent meeting in December to consider possible recommendations.
Slides listed task force objectives (enrollment, programming, funding) and deliverables including meeting summaries, communication before and after meetings and survey inputs from dual-language caregivers. Staff indicated recommendations could be finalized in December and then be presented to the board after the task force completes its work.
The presentation included caregiver feedback emphasizing cultural and language continuity: “I want my children to grow up knowing their language and culture. The school should be fair in offering students opportunities to learn their native language,” quoted on the slides and attributed to a Parent Participatory Evaluation participant. Staff said next steps include finalizing recommendations and continuing outreach tied to broader Transformation activities.
