The Minneapolis Public Schools Board of Education on Dec. 10, 2024 voted to certify the district’s final property tax levy for 2024 payable 2025 at $279,107,854.54. Director Abdul Abdi moved to approve Resolution 2024-0060, and the board adopted the motion by voice vote with eight ayes and one member absent.
The levy certificate, as described in the resolution, follows the Minnesota Department of Education’s levy limitation and certification process and directs district staff to submit the Levy Limitation and Certification Report to the county and MDE by the required deadlines. The resolution notes that the Board Finance Committee recommended a levy at the maximum allowed for 2024 payable 2025 and that the Senior Finance Officer and the Superintendent concurred with the recommendation.
The board held a Truth-in-Taxation hearing during the meeting and recorded that public comments were heard; the minutes do not transcribe individual public commenters. The resolution directs the School District Clerk to file the certified levy with the Hennepin County Auditor and to take the other procedural steps required by state law.
