The Treynor Community School District Board of Education honored its girls cross‑country team at the opening of Monday’s meeting, presenting certificates to athletes who competed at the state meet. Coach Heather Yocom told the board the group set a high bar after finishing third last year and aimed for first this season.
"We were ranked 10th for a lot of the season. We moved up to 9th and then 7th, and ... after districts they bumped us to 3rd," Coach Heather Yocom said, describing a stretch in which the team won nine of 11 regular-season meets. She credited consistent summer training (meeting three times weekly) and athletes running together in packs for the team’s success.
The coach named roster members who ran at State, noting both individual and team achievements, and highlighted recovery resources paid for by the booster club — including compression boots used for post‑practice recovery. Board members and the superintendent joined students for a group photo and offered congratulations; students were invited to stay for the remainder of the meeting.
