Rockford board approves new literacy curriculum for district schools

The Rockford Board of Education on April 21 approved a new literacy curriculum for district schools following a presentation by Learning & Innovation Specialist Kathy Mattson and REAMS teachers.
Mattson and teachers Alex Probst, McKenzie Gregory and Katie Folger described the proposed program and asked the board to adopt it for use in classroom instruction. "The board moved to approve literacy curriculum as presented," said a roll-call motion recorded in the minutes. Praska moved and Johnson seconded; the motion passed unanimously.
Superintendent Dr. Jeff Ridlehoover and REAMS Principal Brenda Nyhus were present for the presentation and did not propose amendments during the session. The approval allows the district to begin implementation planning for the curriculum ahead of the 2025-26 school year.
