District outlines facility projects, HVAC concerns and donor-funded scoreboards

The board reviewed several facility items including new gym lighting, a failing HVAC unit and athletic facility improvements.
Superintendent (speaker 5) said recent work replaced aging gym ballasts with new lighting across east and west gyms; the work produced a noticeable visual upgrade. He reported a compressor failure on a two-compressor HVAC unit serving the 3rd-grade pod and said the district is seeking bids to replace either condensers or the entire unit. He noted past work on a 1st/2nd grade pod where compressor replacement cost about $18,000 while full-unit replacement ran more than $65,000, and said the 3rd-grade replacement could be similarly expensive.
On athletics, the superintendent said the ironwork for new baseball and softball scoreboards is on site and should be installed within a week, and that plans for a donor-funded clubhouse/press box are progressing pending city approval of drawings. "All three of those updates ... are all being paid by an anonymous donor," he said, referring to scoreboards and clubhouse funding. Trustees asked for continued cost estimates and timing to plan any necessary budget or reserve actions.
