Carrie Sawyer, coordinator for Early Childhood and Family Education, described a family‑centered equity approach that concentrated on holism in early learning services. Sawyer said the program expanded empathy interviews and parent‑educator home visits to support transitions into preschool, piloted virtual sessions for topics such as toilet learning, and will offer a new four‑week "Preschool Basics" ECFE class to give families a practical orientation before fall enrollment.
Sawyer told the board that the ECFE equity team included representation from teaching staff, education support professionals, leadership and multilingual staff; the team used small off‑site sites and listening sessions to craft a year‑long road map for family engagement. Board members praised the practical, relationship‑based supports and suggested continued coordination with enrollment and multilingual specialists to scale the work.
