"I'm Randy. I'm the assistant principal over at Northview," the Northview leader told the board and described site work to reduce disproportionality for students who identify as Black and receive special‑education services. Northview conducted empathy interviews with every student who met that intersection, expanded family interviews, and used MAP and MCA data to identify target areas. The speaker said that Northview compares its special‑education share to a district average of about 13% while Northview hovers around 18.5% and that the work seeks to change peer culture and discipline perception through targeted lessons and stronger family partnerships.
The site highlighted AVID as an instructional lever and announced adding a student‑management specialist focused on seventh grade to the equity team. Board members praised the site examples and asked how the strength‑based perspective is integrated; Northview staff described classroom mini‑lessons, restorative reflection, and closer family engagement as main strategies.
