After a closed-session hearing, the Orchard View Schools Board of Education on May 19 moved to recommend a 180-day expulsion for student HB253004L, with the board recording the option of MCVA or ILC (virtual or in-person) as alternative placements. The motion was presented by L. Nelson and seconded by J. Taylor; the board27s roll-call vote was 6-0 in favor.
The action followed a closed-session expulsion/suspension/reinstatement hearing earlier in the meeting. During public comment before the closed session, Cameron Carnes asked the board to allow students in disciplinary situations to participate in graduation activities: "He wants to be able to walk with his class and participate in the activities following graduation," the minutes report. The board27s recommendation is recorded in the minutes as a formal expulsion recommendation; the minutes also list the alternative placement options (MCVA or ILC).
