Cascade SD 5 board approves new hire slate and two collective bargaining agreements

Board action on the new hires was moved by Ruth Stevens and seconded by Aaron Lee; the motion passed 3 yes, 1 abstention. The CEA and OSEA agreements each carried on similar tallies: motions recorded as passing by a vote of 3 yes, 1 abstention. The board minutes state there was no discussion recorded before those votes. The contracts are effective as negotiated in the agreements presented to the board on Sept. 8, 2025, and the hires will be processed per administration recommendation.
The actions followed presentations from Human Resources Director Mr. Weeks, who presented the staffing slate and said the list included several PERS retirees in temporary assignments. The approvals were routine and taken by roll call; the board did not request additional public testimony on these items during the meeting.
What happens next: administration will complete onboarding for the approved positions and implement terms of the two ratified collective bargaining agreements according to the timelines in those contracts.
