District: recycled-water grant under budget, could enable additional hydrants and mains

District leadership told the board that the state-funded recycled-water grant and recent savings on the construction bid provide an opportunity to extend mains and place additional hydrants on unserved streets such as Main and Lansing.
"There was a grant awarded to the district for the entire recycled water project... the bid on that came amazingly enough under budget by $4,000,000," the president said; staff later noted construction progress by Giladi Construction (nearly 500 feet of pipe installed) and that boring under Highway 1 is scheduled the week of June 8 with a Caltrans approval window. Staff emphasized the state looks favorably on projects that can identify near-term irrigation users, which is why potential users such as Rotary Park and state parks are part of ongoing negotiations. No final decision to add mains or hydrants has been made; extensions would require planning, design and further state concurrence.
Superintendent Ryan also described a free preliminary engineering report from Corello Engineering to assess aging plant infrastructure and to position the district for state revolving fund grants.
