Kent County approves $609,134.74 change order for Fuller Administration asbestos abatement

Facilities staff reported on June 10 that hazardous-materials discovered during abatement on the Fuller Administration Building nearly doubled the anticipated quantities, extending the project schedule by roughly 12 weeks and increasing abatement costs.
Tim Bradshaw said the original abatement bid was $2.8 million and that, with the change order, "the cost of the project would increase to $3,415,548.74." Erhardt Construction representatives Jeff Olsen and Kyle VanderPloeg summarized the additional work; the proposed Change Order No.1 totaled $609,134.74 and included a provisional $305,250 line for roof abatement. Bradshaw noted that "If the results from the roof come back negative, the roof abatement cost of $305,250 would be deducted from the total amount of the change order via a separate future change order."
The authority approved Change Order No.1 on a motion by Robert Myers, supported by Colin Schiefler; Scott Conners was recorded in opposition and the motion carried. Bradshaw and project staff said the full demolition portion is now projected to be complete near the end of November, and staff continue to refine systems and reduce space to meet a target all-in cost of $120 million for the overall administration project.
