Budget Committee receives orientation on district budget and Oregon law

The Brookings‑Harbor School Board/Budget Committee met April 16 for a Budget Development Work Session. Board Chair Jay Trost called the meeting to order at 5:00 p.m.; Dede Corpening, Director of Fiscal Services and Business Manager, led an orientation on the district budget.
Corpening told the committee that “The district’s budget serves as a written financial plan for one fiscal year and forms the basis for appropriation and spending authority.” She reviewed Oregon Local Budget Law and stressed that staff should estimate resources “in ‘good faith’” and prioritize transparency and fiscal accountability. The presentation covered how fund, object and function codes organize categories such as salaries, supplies, instruction and facilities.
