Chiloquin Elementary School principal Rita Hepper, accompanied by students and community members, asked the Klamath County School District board for support to turf the school’s little-league baseball fields. The board voted to provide a letter of support and approved applying for grant funds for turf, fencing, bleachers and a scoreboard.
"They are seeking board support for their fundraising effort and a letter of support to begin the grant application process," the meeting minutes record. John Rademacher moved to provide a letter of support and approve applying for grant funds; Brooke Kliewer seconded the motion, and the board approved it unanimously, 5-0.
District staff did not commit district funding during the meeting; the action approved the board’s support and permission to pursue external grants. The project proponents said fundraising and grant applications are the next steps; the district will provide the requested letter of support to assist grant eligibility and local fundraising.
