Pacific High School tightens safety routines; students tell board adjustments are difficult

Pacific High School Principal DeAnna Williams told the board she has implemented several safety measures this school year, including locks on lockers, expectations that backpacks and cell phones be secured during the day, updated safety-pass binders and revised emergency procedures. She said there are three exits and that students are to meet at the track in an evacuation. "Kids are becoming more comfortable with these new measures," Williams reported, and she described other steps such as ordering a games cart, a TV for the cafeteria and lanyards so students can attend clubs during lunch.
Students Brianna Huggins and Lauren Sichting attended the meeting and said they were working on Fall Fest and School Spirit Week, and that some students are having a hard time adjusting to the new safety rules. Superintendent Aaron Miller said he would work with the ASB advisor to formalize procedures for communicating student feedback to the board. Judy Miles commended the students for speaking on behalf of their classmates.
