Superintendent reports $51,000 orchard grant, COPS work near complete and enrollment dip

Superintendent Aaron Miller reported on security and program funding at the Sept. 15 meeting. He said COPS grant projects on front doors and entryways are nearly complete and that the district has secured a $51,000 federal Orchard grant; a volunteer installation day is scheduled for Oct. 11 and the orchard will be used by the district horticulture program on the old cranberry bogs.
Miller also reported enrollment at 228 students (the number reported to the Oregon Department of Education was 226) and said funding is on track. He addressed the Family Academy, estimating about 20 students across 12–13 families, and said the district is directing parents to the ODE-approved list of curriculum while Katherine Hawthorne researches regulatory compliance for the pilot program. Miller invited board members to forward questions to him and noted that curriculum purchases remain district property.
