Trustees discuss facilities maintenance, lighting, fencing damage and security upgrades

During trustee communications and the superintendent’s report, board members raised facilities and safety concerns and staff provided updates on security measures and upcoming maintenance.
Trustee Sergio Valdez reported evening campus walk-throughs that found several lights out in McCabe hallways; district staff said they are evaluating updates and replacements. Mr. Valdez also asked about damaged fencing behind the District Office; district staff reported a stolen vehicle was driven into the fence, the suspect was later taken into custody on Highway 180, and repairs are underway. Superintendent Dr. Lopez and facilities staff said a new camera system with motion-activated live monitoring has reduced physical break-ins.
Dr. Lopez additionally told trustees that the track around McCabe may be installed during Easter recess depending on weather and reminded members of a Brown Act workshop scheduled March 26, 2025. Board members discussed adding a display case in the new district building to showcase historical documents about creation of Mendota Unified.
