Board approves wording to let patrons request new materials for the collection

After a failed amendment from one member, the board voted unanimously to add a section to the Collection Development Policy stating users can request staff to add new material to the library collection.
Esther Knox-Stutsman reviewed the Broomfield Library Collection Development Policy. David Feineman moved to "add a sentence under general section criteria that reads, 'A library user can request staff to add new material to the library collection'"; that motion failed.
Kendra Dunn then moved that library staff add a section under the general criteria noting that users can request new materials; David Feineman seconded and the motion passed unanimously. The board also discussed whether to include a direct link to a request form; members suggested a middle ground of adding language that community members have a space to provide feedback without embedding a link directly in the policy text.
