Greensburg City Council adopted Ordinance 1137 on July 20, 2026, revising the city's fireworks code. The ordinance, moved by Councilmember Wayne Keeton and seconded by Jason West, passed on a unanimous roll-call vote of 5-0.
Administrator Stacy Barnes presented a redlined draft that would remove section 7-306 ("Permit for public fireworks display required"), amend section 7-308(a) to remove the words "street" and "avenue" while allowing discharge on City streets so long as spent fireworks trash "needs to be disposed of properly and safely," and delete section 7-308(b) (which banned fireworks with a discharge extending more than 10 feet). Barnes said her draft reflected a middle-ground approach informed by what other cities allow and local practice since a standard ordinance was adopted in 2007.
Council followed with a roll-call vote after Keeton's motion and West's second. The ordinance adoption is a formal change to the municipal code and takes effect according to the city's usual ordinance-adoption schedule unless otherwise specified by a separate provision of the ordinance.
