The Barre Zoning Board of Appeals voted to approve a use variance for property at 14069 Gillette Road after a public hearing on Nov. 17, 2025. The application, filed for applicants Danny Schuller and Sonia Martino, seeks permission to construct a pole barn on a subdivided parcel; the board completed required environmental and variance-question steps before approving the variance.
At the hearing an applicant described plans to "build a house in the spring" and to construct a pole barn ahead of that work to store tractors and supplies. The board conducted a roll call and moved to approve the variance; after affirmative votes the chair told the applicants they were "good to go" and advised them to coordinate a building permit with town staff. The board also confirmed that copies of decisions and required documentation would be provided to the applicants.
The board's motion followed a previous step in which it declared itself lead agency for environmental review and accepted a negative determination under SEQR (see separate coverage). Board members asked for and received assurances that the pole barn would be used for equipment storage and agriculture-related needs, and that the primary residential structure was planned for a later date. The motion to approve the variance passed in the roll call vote recorded by the board.
