Chair told the board it had received written notice from the Village of Albion that the village will raise wholesale water charges to Barre: $4.28 per 1,000 gallons effective Jan. 1, 2026; $4.93 on Jan. 1, 2027; and $5.17 on Jan. 1, 2028. He said the town currently pays $3.57 per 1,000 and that the increases will be passed to Barre’s water customers.
Members discussed how the increase would appear on upcoming bills (the chair said the increase will show on the billing quarter after the village begins charging the new rate) and whether a town resolution is needed if Barre adopts a slightly different pass-through amount (for example, rounding to $6.75 per thousand rather than $6.71). Staff noted the village sets the wholesale rate and the town can either pass it through exactly or set its own billed amount (which would require a town resolution). The board asked staff to prepare notification for customers and the website.
