Beacon holds 160th Memorial Day commemoration to honor the fallen

Mitch Corrado, host of Beacon’s Memorial Day commemoration, opened the 160th observance on the public square by asking attendees to honor service members who gave their lives in military service. "We remember," Corrado said near the close of his remarks.
Reverend John Rembert led the invocation, asking those gathered to keep the fallen in mind and to carry forward their duty and honor. "Lord, today, we gather on this Memorial Day to honor those who have fought and died in service for our nation so that we can stand here and live in freedom," Rembert said during the prayer. The ceremony also included a reading of John McCrae’s poem "In Flanders Fields," a historical talk, and ceremonial elements such as a battlefield cross and a wreath-laying to follow the service.
