DEW says sales of surplus buildings raised nearly $9M that will fund IT upgrades

Stanton described an effort to sell underused Department of Employment and Workforce buildings and reinvest proceeds in IT modernization. She said the agency has sold multiple properties since an executive order encouraged surplus sales and that proceeds from sales have totaled almost $9,000,000; she said those historic federal funds are being used to purchase a new tax system rather than seeking general-fund appropriations.
Members asked about appraisal procedures, approvals and local-government coordination for property sales; Stanton said DEW is following Department of Administration processes and works with local workforce boards and county governments to market and sell properties where appropriate. She said some properties sold to local governments or medical institutions (she corrected an earlier handout notation that misidentified a buyer), and she agreed to provide appraisals and sale-detail packets on request.
