DEW says veterans program cleared DOL audit; highlights Operation Palmetto Employment

Cheryl Stanton told the Labor, Commerce and Industry committee that the department's veterans programs have helped more than 7,000 veterans and spouses find employment in a single year and that the Department of Labor audit returned no findings or recommendations. "They have asked us to actually... give technical assistance and support to other states," she said, describing the program as a national model.
Stanton described Operation Palmetto Employment, a one-stop online resource coordinated with the National Guard and other partners, and said the department staged numerous veteran-only job fairs. Lawmakers asked why veteran unemployment can still look like a barrier; Stanton cited resume translation (military-to-civilian skills) and mental-health needs and said the agency partners principally with the Veterans Administration while remaining open to other state-level mental-health collaborations.
