Agency calls veterans program a national model after Department of Labor review

Cheryl Stanton told the Labor, Commerce and Industry committee that South Carolina's veterans programs have shown strong results and external validation. "The DOL came in...and they didn't have any findings, they didn't have any observations. They didn't have any recommendations...They have asked us to actually...give technical assistance and support to other states," Stanton said.
Stanton described Operation Palmetto Employment, a partnership with the National Guard and other agencies that created a one-stop website and hosted 29 job fairs in one year with some having priority access for veterans. She said the department also coordinates with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, National Guard, Department of Social Services and other partners to support placement, wraparound services and follow-up.
