Council approves $8,776 contract modification to repair structural issues at Fair Store glass sidewalk

Public Works Director Matthew Gurney told the council that unforeseen structural deficiencies—unreinforced and ungrouted concrete masonry unit (CMU) walls—were discovered after removing sidewalk panels during the Fair Store glass sidewalk rehabilitation at 37 Main Street. Modification No. 1 would use rebar, grout and new center support walls to restore structural integrity.
Gurney said the $8,776 modification will be paid from the project's approximately $20,000 grant contingency fund rather than the city's operating budget. Councilmember Karen Schumacher praised the contractor Marsh Development Inc. for professionalism and communication. Council approved the modification unanimously.
