County leader: state reassessment—not a county tax increase—drove higher property bills
Summary
Council President Natalie Fanny González told listeners that a statewide reassessment raised property values and therefore bills, and described county tax‑relief programs for seniors, veterans and public‑service workers; she said one county credit (ITAC) was eliminated to reallocate roughly $140,000,000 a year to vulnerable services.

Council President Natalie Fanny González told listeners on En Sintonía that recent increases in property tax bills reflect a state‑conducted reassessment of property values, not a local decision to raise the county tax rate.
"No es porque subimos los impuestos en el condado el año pasado," González said, explaining that the state appraisal process raised assessed values and therefore tax bills for many homeowners. She said the county did not increase its tax rate and that the council had blocked proposals to raise local rates.
González outlined county programs that remain available to reduce property‑tax burdens for eligible residents, including targeted credits for older adults, veterans and some public‑service employees. She said one program (referred to on air as ITAC) that the county had pared back previously cost the county about $140,000,000 a year and was reduced so funds could be shifted to services for people with the greatest needs, such as mental‑health supports.
The host and González emphasized the county's efforts to help residents who face increases in their tax bills and pointed listeners to county resources for program eligibility and applications. The broadcast included phone numbers and county webpages for those who need assistance.
