Board tightens basketball procedures and names program in memory of Hal Bomzer

Board members reviewed the recent basketball season and agreed on several operational changes to reduce payment errors and improve game coverage. The report noted missing or incomplete paperwork for some officials: referees listed only as Jason and Steve had no recorded last names, and scorer/timer Casrez Mitchell had not submitted a W-9 and was not an approved vendor. Alex Manzo submitted his business registration certificate and signed W-9 so his company can be paid for eight missing games; Diane Maglione and others also flagged a discrepancy in a payment expected to Kelly Russo.

To address those issues, the Board reinstated Hal's mandatory pre-season meeting for timers, scorers, site managers, and referees; will enforce a no-cell-phone policy at the scorer/timer table; require site managers to wear safety vests as noted in a town Safety Meeting; and require that any new referee assignor be an approved vendor. The Board also discussed using Rich DePena to cover games not handled by Board referees. During new business, Howie Jacobs moved and Mike Ruiz seconded a motion to name the basketball program "The Hal Bomzer Memorial Basketball League," nickname "The Bomzer," and the motion carried unanimously.
