USDA grant on hold delays project power; board still to approve Benton Engineering agreement

Mayor Brendan Schaley presented an update he said he received from Doug with Benton Engineering: with the federal government shutdown, the USDA grant that would fund the project is on hold. Schaley told the board that the project cannot obtain power until funding is secured and that the board still needs to approve an agreement with Benton Engineering.
No formal motion approving the engineering agreement was recorded at the Oct. 6 meeting. Trustees were informed of the funding delay and the board did not set a follow-up vote date during the meeting. The held grant effectively pauses procurement of power hookups tied to that project until federal funding resumes or an alternative source is found.
The board directed that the agreement with Benton Engineering remain on the agenda for future consideration once funding status is clarified, and staff will notify trustees when additional information is available.
