Stronghurst reports two main breaks, loses 60,000 gallons; new well site nearly ready

Water Superintendent Ronnie Gittings told the Village of Stronghurst Board on Aug. 4 that two main breaks near each other caused the town’s water tower to lose about 60,000 gallons in two hours, forcing the village to haul water roughly every 2–3 days.
"We did not have to be put on a boil order either," Gittings said, and he thanked volunteers who helped respond to the emergency. Gittings said only a few houses were without water and none for more than about three hours.
Representatives from Benton Engineering updated trustees on the new well site and reported that the well has been drilled and "the correct pump is now in place." They said water samples were sent out and officials are waiting for complete results; power still must be connected before the village can begin hauling water from that new source.
The board did not take immediate action beyond noting the report; public documents and the engineering update indicate the village will transition hauling operations to the new well once samples clear and power is installed. The board is set to revisit the water-systems status in its next meeting.
