The Lighthouse Point Economic Development Advisory Board extended a business survey and organized targeted outreach after receiving 39 responses from an estimated 320 business tax-license records.
"We had a total of, I believe, 320 unique business tax licenses ... and we had 39 responses as of yesterday," the Chair said while presenting the initial survey results. The board voted to extend the deadline (originally Jan. 31) to the end of February and to pursue a second wave of outreach.
Members agreed that staff would distribute a tentative call script and volunteer assignments for committee members to phone businesses that had not responded, with the Chair estimating a modest workload (roughly three follow-up calls per volunteer between now and the next meeting). Staff also reported email open rates for the campaign—about 63% on the first send, 55% on a second reminder and 52% on a third push—figures the board said were encouraging for an early-stage civic outreach.
The board discussed refining the survey sample to prioritize businesses that generate meaningful tax receipts and identifying large landholders and commercial anchors for deeper outreach. Staff noted some businesses hold multiple licenses (restaurants may have separate takeout and seating licenses), which complicates the raw counts of license records versus unique businesses.
Next steps: staff will send the call script and the narrowed outreach list to volunteers, and the committee expects to close follow-up outreach and report a final tally at the next meeting.
