DEW highlights veterans services and second‑chance reentry pilots with high placement rates
Summary
Director Cheryl Stanton told the committee DEW placed more than 7,000 veterans and spouses in one year, ran 29 veterans-only job fairs, and piloted in-prison training and work-release coordination with placement rates near 75% in targeted programs.

Stanton told the committee DEW had helped "over 7,000 people find employment in 1 year period alone" through veterans programs and partnerships with the National Guard, Veterans Administration and other agencies; a DOL audit found no findings and called the program a model for other states. She also described Operation Palmetto Employment, a veterans one-stop website and priority job fairs.
On reentry, Stanton said a 2nd-chance program with the Department of Corrections and Manning work-release produced nearly 75% employment among participants after release; that model is being expanded to a women's facility. She emphasized employer engagement, tax credits (Work Opportunity Tax Credit) and federal bonding as tools to persuade employers to hire people with criminal records.
