Staff described the motor pool (internal service fund) as the mechanism for buying and maintaining vehicles and heavy equipment and said planned FY27 purchases total about $725,000 (municipal tractor, plow truck, slide‑in sander).
"...that is a total of 725,000 for equipment purchases," the City Manager said. Fleet staff explained a used plow truck they purchased is nearing readiness, but factory lead times and parts delays (including cross‑border sourcing) complicate delivery and outfitting schedules. Staff said much of the fleet work is done in‑house and praised mechanics for keeping aging equipment operational despite regional constraints on parts and specialty services.
Commissioners discussed options for phased replacement, sharing vehicles across funds and the motor pool cost allocation method. Staff noted motor pool costs are charged back to using funds so replacement is not always paid out of the general fund alone.
