A member who proposed the amendment argued the date cited on the county calendar did not match the state/federal observance, saying, "It's not indigenous peoples isn't on October 11," and urged aligning the label with the court and federal schedule. County staff explained the county had previously added the Indigenous Peoples Day label and that the amendment would restore the Columbus Day label while keeping the same number of holidays.
Committee members debated coordination with the courts and whether the change simply reflected the title or also implied a date change. The chair called for the vote, stating, "All those in favor change their name to Columbus Day instead of Indigenous Peoples Day." The motion passed and the committee recorded the approval to move the amended holiday schedule forward to the board for final administrative action.
