The Planning and Zoning Commission convened on May 5 and completed routine business, including welcoming newly appointed Commissioner Alex Rivera and taking action on a Special Use Permit recommendation for a drive-through at 3250 Kirchoff Road. The meeting opened at 7:00 PM and adjourned at 8:40 PM.
ACM/DCD Glen Cole introduced Commissioner Alex Rivera to the Commission, noting Rivera is a "resident of Rolling Meadows since 2021 and a civil engineer with the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), specializing in traffic signals." The Commission also voted 5–0 to recommend the City Council approve Alero Financial’s Special Use Permit for the drive-through, attaching a landscaping condition.
On accessory dwelling units, the Commission directed staff to prepare two ordinance options for detached ADUs (a permitted-use track with enhanced standards and a special-use track), requested illustrative examples and a feasibility spot-check, and asked that staff brief City Council informally before the item returns for public hearing in June or July.
Votes at a glance: Recommendation on Special Use Permit for 3250 Kirchoff Road passed 5–0 (Buckingham, Gercken, Modi, Rivera, Roos). The meeting adjourned at 8:40 PM.
