The board debated a proposed extension of a waste-disposal contract and a 3.6% consumer-price-index adjustment at length. Board member Free noted that the agenda packet contained 2024 solicitation documents and a blank rate sheet; she asked for the signed, current 2026–27 rate schedule and written confirmation from the vendor about the proposed CPI increase.
District procurement staff said the CPI adjustment is tied to the Los Angeles County index and that the district could continue services at existing rates while the contract committee reviews documentation. Following discussion about transparency and potential new costs associated with organics/food-waste collection, the board amended and tabled the item and directed the contract committee (chaired by Miss Langenwalter) to review the contract and report back.
Board members asked staff to include baseline awarded rates, vendor confirmation of CPI adjustments, and an explicit breakdown of costs for organics, recycling and refuse to avoid later surprises. The motion to table and refer to the contract committee passed with board assent.
