Superintendent Tanya Magana framed the 2026–27 year around nine superintendent SMART goals and spotlighted a significant organizational change: centralizing student and family services under one department. "These goals will guide every major decision we make and provide measurable outcomes," Magana said before turning the presentation to the department director.
Christopher Moton, director of student and family services, described the Huerta hub as a central, co‑located site where families can enroll students, access McKinney‑Vento supports, immunizations from Health on Wheels, foster youth resources, and expanded learning programs. Moton said the hub is designed to remove barriers by offering coordinated services in one place: "Our goal is to provide that centralized, high‑quality, inclusive, accessible situation for all of our families."
Operational details provided during the presentation included plans for satellite service sites (an El Camino satellite for La Mirada families), pending front gate and intercom infrastructure at the Huerta campus, and the intent to house enrollment centers, health services, and program offices in one facility. Staff said McKinney‑Vento services currently cover roughly 2,500 students and foster-youth supports serve about 80–100 students; expanded learning programs serve more than 1,600 students per day.
The board praised the customer-service emphasis and encouraged staff to pursue grants to support training. Board members asked for ongoing progress reports and staff said they will provide regular updates to the board and community.
