Commission denies rezoning at 408 E. First North Street to preserve single-family corridor

Ethel Rhodes and Lui Chan spoke in favor of allowing an office at the location; Rhodes said an attorney already operates an office nearby and "does not live there." Mayor Gary Chesney pressed for clarity that the nearby attorney does not reside at his office location and Ms. Rhodes confirmed he does not. Mr. Neilson reiterated the request was not about a home-occupation bed but about changing the corridor from residential to commercial.
Vice-Chairman Jack Kennerly moved to deny the rezoning request based on the City's recommendation; Commissioner Jake Stokely seconded. The recorded vote was 8 yes and 1 no; based on the vote the commission denied the rezoning to preserve the residential character of the corridor.
