The Board of Education voted unanimously on May 12 to grant tenure to five teachers, approving tenure recommendations brought forward by Superintendent Dr. Brian Doelger. The tenures and effective dates are: Lauren Farkas (Music K'12, effective Sept. 1, 2025), Adrianne Pitch (Elementary K'6, effective Sept. 1, 2025), Debra Sears (English 7'12, effective Sept. 1, 2025), Kristin Sweeney (Physical Education K'12, effective Sept. 1, 2025), and Erin Baskin (Physical Education K'12, effective Oct. 12, 2025).
Administrators and board members praised the teachers for program development and student impact. Director Todd Gulluscio commended Farkas for revitalizing the band and concerts, said Pitch is a role model to both elementary and high-school students, and thanked Sweeney for transforming the Physical Education department. "She is one of the hardest workers who always gives it her best," Dr. Doelger said of Lauren Farkas. New tenure-holders thanked the Board and their colleagues for support during their careers at Shelter Island School.
