Shelter Island externship program grows in year two with local partners

James Theinert reported April 7 that the district’s Externship Program is in its second year and is expanding as community partners increasingly reach out. He listed participating partners and said the district is seeing no repeat experiences so far this year and hopes to continue building the program annually.
Partners named included Sylvester Manor; the Shelter Island Highway Department; Taylor’s Island; Gardiners Bay Country Club Pro Shop; JP Morgan & North Ferry; Shelter Island Yacht Club; Shelter Island Friends of Music; Shelter Island History Museum; FoodLab at Stony Brook University–Southampton; and an internship opportunity with Susan Schrott. Superintendent Dr. Brian Doelger and President Kathleen M. Lynch thanked Theinert for organizing the program, and board members praised the educational value.
