Shelter Island voters approve $13.3 million school budget in revote

Shelter Island Union Free School District voters approved the proposed 2025–26 annual budget of $13,298,131 in a budget revote held June 17, 2025. Polls were open from 12:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.; District Clerk Jacqueline Dunning announced that 629 ballots were cast and that the tabulation showed 502 votes in favor and 125 opposed, with two blank ballots (627 valid votes). Jacqueline Dunning declared the budget passed.
Following the announcement, Board member Tracy McCarthy moved that the Board accept the results as read by the District Clerk; the motion was seconded by Karina Montalvo and carried unanimously. Board President Kathleen Lynch had called the revote to order at noon and had administered the Constitutional Oath of Office to the District Clerk and election staff at the start of the day. The Board adjourned the revote at 9:45 p.m.
