Board approves temporary supplement to convert county state court solicitor to full time

Barrow County commissioners on Feb. 25 approved a temporary supplement to convert the part‑time county state court solicitor position to full time, effective Feb. 1, allowing Kyle Sherry to serve in a full‑time capacity pending any required local legislation.
Staff explained the solicitor's office was formed under House Bill 1157 and that the position had been part time; because of staffing changes and workload the solicitor requested and the county recommended a temporary supplement so the solicitor could function full time. Staff noted a permanent conversion would require local legislation and be addressed in 2026; the temporary supplement was represented as falling within the approved budget.
A motion to approve the temporary supplement was made, seconded and carried by the board. Staff indicated the supplement would allow the solicitor to serve full time immediately, and that any permanent change would follow the legislative process next year.
