Barrow County planning staff presented a request to rezone about 10.89 acres at 0 Dogwood from agricultural to R-1 for a minor subdivision and to allow a variance for minimum road frontage. Applicant representative Matt Sullins said the project will consist of minimum two-acre lots, and the developer intends to pave the roadway as requested by planning staff.
Neighbors, led by Regina Holcomb, said new homes built adjacent to an older subdivision could increase taxes and cause runoff given the bowl-like topography. A helper, Sarah Johnson, asked the commission to require an additional buffer and setbacks to protect adjoining property. After discussion of building setbacks and R-1 standards, a commissioner moved to recommend approval based on staff recommendations; the motion passed and the recommendation will be forwarded to the county commissioners for a Feb. 11 decision.
